Abstract

This paper discusses the intangible and the tangible cultural heritage of the future on the examples of four films from the post-apocalyptic (sub) genre. There is a presentation of imaginary “gathering practice” among the leaders of the post-apocalyptic gangs which can be linked to the forerunner of museums as we know them today, as well as the oral traditions of the postapocalyptic communities which are used in the film for the purpose of political manipulation. In consideration of the material and the nonmaterial cultural heritage in the films that deal with the subject of postapocalypse we are able to perceive/ realize the relationship we attribute to the post-apocalyptic people/communities regarding the past/old world, what is shown to be valuable to keep/succeed/remember, in what way social power and cultural heritage are linked and how cultural heritage gets instrumentalized in the process of achieving political goals of certain individuals.
