ABOUT THE STUDIES OF FAMILY SLAVA IN SERBIA

Abstract

This paper deals with the most notable theories about the origin and the development of the family slava as a “specific” custom in Serbian folk religion. The paper offers and comments on the ideas of the relevant authors about the origin of this holiday as well as determining the social characteristics of the family slava. Finally, perspectives for further research were discussed and an emphasis was put on some aspects of this custom that require more research and further interpretation.
