Abstract

The basical intention of this paper is to point our the origin, movement, contents and function of Subotica folclore (in the first place choruses and orchestras) during sixties (1961-1968), untill 1969, when it was transfered to Čantavir, near Subotica. During this period, festivals of choruses and irchestras were held in Subotica, Bačka Topola, Senta and Bajmok. They have several functions: integrating local society system, nourishing tradition (music, dance, singing) through activities of individuals and culture institutions helping professional affirmation of individuals and culture institutions, providing means of living (at least partly) for persons employed in culture institutions ogranising such festivals, and finally they are sutisfying the need for this kond of tradition.
