Abstract

The paper considers the relationship between the revulsion toward incest, on the one hand, and the prescription of moral prohibition, on the other, since these are the praxis present in every socio-cultural context - from the ancient world to the present time. When it comes to the incest, the revulsion is an automatic reaction, which in many cultures represents a defense mechanism from the incestuous sexuality, and is completely autonomous relative to the moral prohibition, i.e., moral hesitation. Consequently, the paper considers the following questions: does the revulsion condition the moral attitude which dictates shying away from the incest, or does the moral principle condition the revulsion? Do moral imperatives develop independently from the development of emotions having in mind that emotions themselves trigger complex reactions?
