Abstract

Reviewing the usability of the concept given by Erving Goffman and other scholars of (symbolic) interactionism and social constructivism in the analysis of the phenomenon of virtual space, the paper deals with the issue of creating virtual identities and the position (of the presentation) of human body in this process. Assuming that the physical and virtual realities are inextricably linked, we will view the Internet as a simulation of reality and not only as its virtual representative. In analyzing this kind of (re)presentation, my main goal is to determine how the active consumers of the virtual space and time experience, use and present their bodies in the process of the construction of their virtual identities.
