A popular music in the last decade of the 20th century in Serbia was imbued with flows of three musical genres: new folk music, turbofolk and dance. In spite of common contestations of dance music concerning its quality, originality and (in)coherence with political system, a phenomenon of the reinterpretation of this kind of music and reorganization of thematic parties in belgrade clubs, called “1990's“ or „Diesel“, refer to the popularity of dance performers and their songs. In this essay we wanted to present and interpret basic characteristics of dance as a complex genre of the popular culture in Serbia in 1990's, as a genre which makes an intrinsic union of music, dance and visual characteristics of video presentations which implied a coherence of acting, mime, costume design, set design and procedures of photography and assemblage. As representatives of this genre we chose three bands which were the most popular in 1990's in Serbia. These are musical and dance bands Djogani fantastiko, Funky G and Dr Iggy.
